The 51 meter long, 783 gt steam icebreaker Stettin collided with the 188 meter long, 11029 dwt ro-ro cargo vessel Finnsky in Rostock, Germany. The Stettin was proceeding out of the port with 180 passengers when strong currents caused the Stettin to strike the stem of the Finnsky.  The Stettin sustained a two meter gash in the hull above the waterline.  Three persons sustained minor injuries.  Both the Finnsky and Stettin berthed in Rostock after the incident. The water police in Rostock has launched an investigation into the incident.

The 29 meter long ro-ro ferry Stettin allided on the Kiel Canal while attempting to berth in Brundbüttel, Germany.  The Stettin had suffered engine failure before crashing into a barrier.   A bollard on the ferry broke free while the barrier crashed onto the deck of the ferry.   No reports of injuries.   The Stettin was pulled out of service for repairs.

Collision in the Kiel Canal

The 783 gt icebreaker Stettin collided with the 89 meter long, 3850 dwt freighter Richelieu in the northern lock of the Kiel Canal at Brunsbuettel.   The Stettin was attempting to moor when it struck the stern of the Richelieu.  The icebreaker suffered little to no damage while the freighter’s stern was dented.   Both vessels were detained for a short period and allowed to continue their voyage.  The Stettin was on route from Hamburg bound for Rendsburg.  The Richelieu was bound for Kaliningrad from Hamburg.   No reports of injury or pollution being released.
