Freighter and fishing vessel collide

The 52532 dwt freighter West Bay collided with the 50 foot fishing vessel Michael Brandon some 20 miles off the coast of Hull, Massachusetts. The fishing vessel sustained severe damage, but was able to be towed back to Scituate, Massachusetts. However, it later sank in the harbor. Reports state there were no injuries on either vessel. The Coast Guard is conducting an investigation.

Reports state a 70 ton barge sank near Rio Cordoba, Columbia loaded with coal. The barge owned by the mining company Vale S.A. The barge sinking was caused by bad weather and rough seas. No details given on injuries, pollution or salvage of the barge.

The bulk frieghter Jian Mao 9 sank off the coast of Danang, Vietnam. The 34,456 dwt vessel crew of 26 were all rescued by the container vessel Nyk Aquarius. The Aquarius was sailing from Senkou, China to Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Vietnam. Reports do not state the cause of the sinking.
