Collision on the Weser

The 186 meter long, 47286 dwt bulk freighter Coral Ace collided with the 230 meter long, 42102 dwt container vessel Lisa Schulte near the entrance to the Weser Estuary.  The Lisa Schulte struck into the side of the Coral Ace during the night during a squall.   The Coral Ace suffered a three meter gash along its port side hull while the Lisa Schulte suffered damage to its bow.   Both vessels suffered water ingress and proceeded to Wilhelmshaven.   Authorities dispatched vessels to escort the vessels into port.   No reports of injuries.   The water police has launched an investigation into the collision.

The 116 meter long, 5557 dwt tanker Kapitan Pershin became disabled on the Dvina River near Arkhangelsk, Russia.   The tanker had suffered engine failure and had become stuck in the ice.   A tug was dispatched and towed the Kapitan Pershin into port.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On January 25, the 68 meter long self-propelled barge Allegonda L was damaged while berthed at Antwerp, Belgium.  The vessel was loading cargo when the loading equipment suffered a malfunction and struck the wheelhouse.  The wheelhouse’s windows were broken and equipment smashed.  No one was injured and no pollution was released.
