Connemara Aground

Connemara Aground

The 110 meter long inland tanker Connemara went aground on the Eastern Scheldt River near Stavenisse, Netherlands.   The Connemara was freed later with the aid of tugs and the rising tide.  No reports of damage, injury or pollution being released.   The Connermara had 25 tons of hydrocarbons on board at the time of the accident.

Mar Cristina Explosion

Mar Cristina Explosion

The 114 meter long, 6802 dwt tanker Mar Cristina suffered an explosion while moored at Sandefjord, Norway.   The explosion occurred in the forward section of the tanker while it was loading a cargo of sludge.   The Mar Cristina suffered damage to it’s deck and hull.   No reports of injuries, but one crewman was taken to hospital to be checked out.   An investigation into the cause of the explosion is being conducted.

Fire on Le Tai

Fire on Le Tai

The 169 meter long, 22,318 dwt freighter Le Tai suffered a fire in it’s hold while moored at the Rhenus Terminal at Rotterdam, Netherlands.  The fire broke out in the hold which contained a cargo of aluminum releasing dense smoke.   The crew contacted the local fire rescue who were able to extinguish the blaze quickly.   Reports state the cargo was removed from the hold to allow for inspection.    No reports of injuries.
