Collision in South China Sea

Reports state that a boxship collided with a freighter off the coast of Lianyungang, China.   The boxship heading to Qingdao from Singapore struck the 97 meter long freighter which was heading to Tiajin from Fuzhou.  After the collision, the freighter sank.  Reports state there were 11 crew on the freighter with three being rescued by the boxship.  The remaining eight crew are still listed as missing.

The name of the vessels have not been reported.

Navin Kestrel Aground

Navin Kestrel Aground

The 7200 dwt freighter Navin Kestrel went aground at the entrance to Kaliningrad, Russia, after suffering a power blackout.  The tug Pioner was able to refloat the Kestrel and towed it to an anchorage.   The Kestrel suffered some slight damage to its bow.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

When Anger Management Fails…

On July 7th, the 36 foot fishing vessel Anger Management crashed into the south jetty at Ocean City, Maryland.   The vessel broke-up and sank sending the master of the vessel to hospital with minor injuries.   Later the master was charged with operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol and failure to maintain lookout to avoid a collision.
