Maysora Fire

The 24,362 dwt livestock freighter Maysora caught fire in the Aegean Sea near Bozcaada Island close to the approaches to the Dardanelles.  The fire had started in the engine room and quickly spread to the living quarters of the crew.   The master of the Maysora requested assistance and for additional fire-fighting equipment.   The Coast Guard responded sending fire-fighting tug boats to the scene.   After fighting the blaze for several hours, the crew was able to extinguish the fire.  None of the 71 crew and 2 passengers were injured.   The vessel will be taken to Tekirdag with the assistance of a tugboat.  The Maysora was scheduled to arrive at Tekirdag, Turkey from Freemantle with 73,500 sheep.
