The 1139 gt barge Dick Z began to sink near Cape Henry, Virginia Beach, Virginia while under tow by the tug Lucinda Smith. The bow of the barge was awash when the tug changed the tow line to pull the Dick Z by the stern. The vessels headed to Hampton Roads for repairs. Reports state no pollution released.

Freighter Sail Queen aground

The Russian dry-bulk freighter Sail Queen with a load of steel products ran aground in the Aegean Sea near the coast of Turkey. The vessel had earlier hit bottom holing the bottom of the hull. The damage was severe enough that the crew directed the freighter onto a sandbank. None of the 16 member crew were injured.
