Dan Fighter

On March 4, the 64 meter long, 1260 dwt cargo vessel Dan Fighter collided with the 337 meter long, 118,908 dwt container ship Maersk Genoa on the Wester Scheldt between Breskens and Vlissingen, Netherlands. The Dan Fighter had struck the stern of the Maersk Genoa. Both vessels sustained damage with the Maersk Genoa holed in the stern above the waterline. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

The Dan Fighter was able to resume its voyage from Bilbao to Antwerp later the same day. The Maersk Genoa had just departed from Antwerp bound for Bremerhaven before the collision. The container ship was last reported at anchor. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 333 meter long, 124479 dwt container ship Cap San Lorenzo ran aground in the North Sea near Vissingen, Netherlands. The boxship was en route to Le Havre from Antwerp when it ran hard aground on a sandbar.  Initial attempts to refloat the Cap San Lorenzo failed due to fog and low tide.  A second attempt with the aid of four tugs was successful later the same day. No reports of injuries to the 29 crew on board, damage or pollution released. The boxship proceeded to an anchorage off Ostend where divers conducted a survey before allowing the vessel to proceed on its voyage.

MAGELLAN_STRAIT

The 186 meter long, 16494 dwt reefer Magellan Strait allided at the port of Vlissingen, Netherlands.  The Magellan Strait was about to berth when it suffered engine failure.   The reefer was unable to slow down as it was going astern when it struck another vessel.  The unnamed vessel had its bow dented, but there were no injuries on either vessel.  Reports state a pilot was on board at the time of the allision.  Authorities has launched an investigation into the incident.
