The 86 meter long,  3638 dwt ro-ro ferry Suilven sank at Suva, Fiji. The ferry enter the harbor at Suva from Fiji’s northern islands when it suffered uncontrolled water ingress. The Suilven developed a list to starboard and began to settle by the stern. The 27 crew on board requested assistance. Several nearby vessels came to the Suilven aid and safely rescued all the crew before the ferry sank an hour later. No reports of injuries. Reports state there were no passengers on board. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

On March 17, the fishing vessel SK7 caught fire while at anchor off Suva Harbor, Fiji.  The fire started in the vessel’s wheelhouse and quickly consume the superstructure.  Fiji authorities dispatched a support vessel to help douse the fire.  No reports of injuries.   The fire on the SK7 was extinguished and the vessel was towed to a nearby reef.  The cause of the fire was not reported.

The 158 meter long, 23360 dwt bulk freighter Starford went aground in Suva Bay near Suva, Fiji.   The vessel had arrived from Shanghai and was at anchor when a cyclone passed through the area.   The high winds and waves caused the Starford’s anchors to drag until it ran onto a reef.   No reports of injuries.   The Starford sustained only minor damage.
