The 190 meter long, 56969 dwt bulk freighter Arizona went aground at St. Petersburg, Russia. The Arizona was departing the port bound for Houston with a cargo of steel when it struck bottom. The freighter’s draft had increased unexpectedly due to ice forming on vessel’s keel. Four tugs were attempted to refloat the vessel, but failed to do so. No reports of injuries or pollution being released. Divers have been requested to inspect the hull for any damage.

The 183 meter long, 36986 dwt tanker Torm Saone collided with the 129 meter long tanker Komsomol Volgograda in the anchorage area at St. Petersburg, Russia. The Torm Saone stern struck the midsection of the Komsomol Volgograda resulting in a hole in the hull above the water line near the pumps. Both vessels were in ballast at the time of the incident. Both vessels will be surveyed for damage. No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

The 2570 dwt tanker Flandriya collided with a fishing vessel near the Neva Gate, St. Petersburg. The tanker alerted the fishing vessel that it was approaching, but it could not avoid the collision. The tanker was unable to stop due to the strong river current while the fishing vessel had become disabled due to its propeller fouled by nets. The fishing vessel was pulled under the starboard bow sending the 3 crew on the fishing vessel into the water. Reports state 1 crewman was rescued while 2 others are missing.

The 4,739 dwt bunker tanker Gazpromneft Nord struck the moored 289 meter long, 113,000 gt cruise ship Emerald Princess at Berth 6 of the harbour of St. Petersburg, Russia. The tanker cause damage to the starboard side of the Emerald Princess with 2 lifeboats damaged, davits, a life raft, and a workboat fell overboard. The Gazpromneft Nord suffered dents to the hull. No injuries or pollution was released. A survey of damage is being conducted by the Lloyds’s office.
