The 74 meter long converted luxury yacht Giant I caught fired while moored at a quay at Velsen-Noord, Netherlands.  The fire started on a mattress in one of the crew cabins which resulted in heavy smoke.   The local fire brigade responded and were able to extinguish the fire in a short time.   Four crew suffered smoke inhalation and three taken to hospital.   The amount of damage sustained on the vessel was not reported.  The cause of the fire was still unknown.

The 23 meter long luxury yacht Kahu caught fire while berthed in East Cowes Marina, Isle of Wight.  The fire was discovered and local fire brigades attempted to extinguished the blaze.  Fire fighting continued for several hours, but attempts to control the fire failed. The Kahu burned and eventually sank along the pier.  The Kahu was unmanned at the time of the fire.  Reports state the luxury yacht was up for sale for 5.6 million pounds.

The 41 meter long luxury yacht Seafaris caught fire, exploded, and sank while off Queensland, Australia.  The Seafaris was off Cape Tribulation with eight crew and eight passengers when one of the crew discovered the vessel was on fire.  A distress call was sent out and before all 16 on board escaped into the vessel’s  life rafts.  They were later rescued by a passing container ship.  After several hours the Seafaris burned until it sank.   No reports of injuries.
