On November 9, the 83 meter long, 3171 dwt general cargo vessel Skagern ran aground on the Gota River between Trollhättan and Lilla Edet, Sweden. The Skagern was headed for Kingston upon Hull, England with a cargo of timber when it suffered a technical fault and ran aground. The Skagern sustained a slight list to starboard, but no hull breaches or water ingress.

Authorities were notified and arrived on scene a short time later. Booms were placed around the vessel to contain any pollution. The officers on board the vessel were tested for alcohol which was all returned negative. The exact cause of the grounding was not known, but authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Divers shall inspect the hull for damage before salvage attempts are started. Reports state the vessel may require to be lighten before it can be pulled free.

The 188 meter long, 35079 dwt cargo vessel Caledonia ran aground in the port of Constanța, Romania. The Caledonia departed from its berth with 10,678 tonnes of laminates bound for Veracruz. As it maneuvered away from the berth, the bow of the Caledonia ran aground just off the east peir Farul Carol I lighthouse. No reports of injuries.

Following the grounding, authorities inspected the Caledonia for damage. Finding no damage to the hull, it was determine the vessel would need to be lightered before it could be refloated. After 1,000 tonnes of cargo was unloaded, three tugs pulled the Caledonia free.  The Caledonia proceeded back to the berth to be reloaded.  No reports of damage or pollution released.

On February 26, the 61 meter long, 945 dwt cargo vessel Bulk Viking became disabled disabled off Offersøy, Norway. The Bulk Viking was headed to Kobbvaagen from Narvik when it struck bottom off Offersøy. The cargo vessel sustained damage or lost its rudder.

Unable to steer, the crew sent out a distress call requesting assistance. Authorities dispatched two rescue boats to the scene. The rescue boats were able to assist the Bulk Viking and proceeded to Harstad. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
