Stena Conqueror

The 180 meter long, 47323 dwt tanker Stena Conqueror allided with a pier at Brake, Germany.  The tanker was being aided by two tugs when it struck the pier.   The pier suffered significant damage requiring operations to stop until it could be inspected.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   The Stena Conqueror had completed a voyage from Liverpool with 9900 tons of palm oil.

The 166 meter long self-propelled barge Stark allided with a bridge spanning the Main-Donau Canal at Nürnberg, Germany.  The Stark’s wheelhouse had not been lowered to pass underneath the railway bridge.   One crew was trapped when the wheelhouse was crushed.   The local fire brigade was called to the scene who freed the trapped crewmen.  She was later taken to hospital.  The canal was closed to traffic until the Stark could be pulled back from underneath the bridge to a nearby quay.   The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.

Jing Huai 188

Jing Huai 188

The 45 meter long coastal freighter Jing Huai 188 sank near Shanghai, China.   The freighter was en route to Nantong City from Shanghai with 770 tons of steel when the vessel when it was struck by a heavy gale.   The vessel’s cabin quickly flooded and the crew of the Jing Huai 188 requested assistance.  The maritime authorities at Shanghai responded sending patrol vessels to the scene.   The rescuers pulled two people out of the water.   The survivors, an elderly couple, were the grandparents of the master of the vessel.   The master and two other family members were listed as missing.   A small amount of fuel pollution was spotted and later cleaned up by authorities.  Reports state the vessel will be salvaged later.
