Aground on Tubbataha Reef

The fishing vessel 63168 went aground in the Philippines on Tubbataha Reef.  The Chinese fishing vessel with 12 crew was illegally fishing when it struck the reef.   No reports of injuries.   Philippine authorities dispatched a vessel to the scene to monitor the fishing vessel and the crew on board.  The USS Guardian had run aground earlier on the reef on January 17.

The 225 meter long, 73035 dwt bulk freighter went aground on the Columbia River near Rainier, Oregon.  The Corviglia had completed loading a cargo of soybeans and was waiting for a river pilot when the tide went out leaving the vessel stuck on the river bottom.   When the tide returned, the vessel was able to refloat itself and proceeded to an anchorage where the vessel was inspected for damage.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.   Reports state the Corviglia was bound for China.

The 290 meter long, 174725  dwt bulk freighter Aquafortune went aground in the Black Sea near Zonguldak, Turkey.  The Aquafortune was maneuvering to enter the port when it ran aground into shallow water.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Authorities report the vessel is being inspected by divers and will be salvaged later.  The Aquafortune was en route to Zonguldak from South Africa with 150,000 tons of coal.
