Danube Collision

The 70 meter long self-propelled barge Obelix collided with the 110 meter long self-propelled barge Cymba on the Danube River near Niederalteich, Germany. The Cymba was attempting to overtake the the Obelix when the vessels collided. The Obelix lost steering and ended up perpendicular with its bow aground on the opposite bank. The Cymba also sustained some bow damage.  Neither vessel had any water ingress. The two barges proceeded to Deggendorf for inspection. The Cymba was en route from Krems with 1000 tons of sugar beets while the Obelix was headed to Bamberg from Linz with 600 tons of fertilizer.
