On October 20, the 80 meter long self-propelled barge Taifun allided with a bridge over the Elbe River near Hamburg, Germany. The Taifun was passing under the bridge when the wheelhouse struck the bridge span.  The Taifun’s wheelhouse was destroyed and one crewman suffered slight injuries.  The crewman was later taken to hospital. The bridge sustained a dent, but no structural damage was found during an inspection. Reports state the allision was due to the extremely high water which was one meter higher than normal.
