The 110 meter long, 2792 ton self-propelled barge Bavaria 83 ran aground on the Danube near Parkstetten, Germany. The vessel had run onto a sand bank and was swung perpendicular to the river blocking traffic. The crew requested for a rescue boat to assist it, but the barge was able to refloat itself aided by the strong current later the same day.  The Bavaria 83 then proceeded to a nearby anchorage to inspect the hull for damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Bavaria 83 was en route to Austria with 1600 tons of iron.
