The 656 foot long, 36563 dwt bulk carrier Federal Rideau ran aground in Lake St. Clair near the entrance to the Detroi River.  The Federal Rideau was downbound heading to Montreal with 22672 tons of wheat when it suffered a steering failure and ran onto a mud bank. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Initial attempts to refloat the bulk carrier with two tugs failed.  Another attempt with a total of five tugs was to be attempted on the following day.  Authorities reported that Federal Rideau is partially blocking the channel, but traffic was still open.
