Great Mind

The 225 meter long, 75474 dwt freighter Great Mind went aground in Manila Bay near Masinloc, Philippines.   The freighter requested assistance and three tugs were dispatched to help refloat the vessel.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.  The vessel was en route to Masinloc Power Plant from Port Klang with a cargo of coal.

Paul R. Tregurtha

The 308 meter long, 69172 dwt bulk freighter Paul R. Tregurtha went aground on St. Mary’s River near Neebish Island.   The freighter was proceeding downbound with 62,000 tons of coal when it grounded at the bow.   After the bow struck the Paul R. Tregurtha swung around until the vessel’s stern was hard aground with the span of the vessel blocking the navigation channel.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   Reports state there was some damage, but no details provided.  The Coast Guard dispatched personnel to the scene to assess the extent of any structural damage to the vessel.  The Coast Guard and the vessel’s owner are coordinating refloating efforts.

Guyenne

The 120 meter long, 11336 dwt chemical tanker Guyenne caught fire in the Mediterranean Sea near Palamos, Spain.   The fire started in the engine room and was quickly extinguished by the crew.  The blaze disabled the tanker requiring a tow by a tug to Marseille.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Uniqueship

The 110 meter long self-propelled barge Uniqueship suffered an explosion and fire while at Rotterdam, Netherlands.  Two crewmen were caught in the explosion with one jumping into the water.   Both men suffered injuries to the arms, legs and back.   Both crewmen were rescued and taken to hospital.   The local fire brigade arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.  No further details reported.
