Family Union

The fishing vessel Family Union sank off Caleta deVelez Malaga, Spain.   The vessel suffered a breakdown off the coast when the bilge alarm was sounded.   The master of the vessel found the engine room flooded.   The Family Union had suffered a leak and the water ingress could not be stopped.   The vessel did not send out a distress call.   The crew abandoned ship into the liferaft and dinghy.   A nearby fishing vessel picked up the crew and safely returned them to shore.  The fishing vessel rests 3 miles off shore in 70 feet of water.   Authorities report some debris floating in the water including vests and nets.  The boat was valued at 360,000 €.
