Kiel Canal Collision

The 134 meter long, 11390 dwt container ship OOCL Neva collided with the 90 meter long freighter Blue Carmel in the Kiel Canal between Breiholz and Oldenbüttel, Germany.  Reports state that both vessels sustained only slight damage.   The Blue Carmel has been detained in Brunsbuettel while the water police conduct further investigation into the incident.  The OOCL Neva continued on its voyage from Hamburg to St. Petersburg, Russia.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Zwaluw Sunk

Zwaluw Sunk

The 55 meter long self-propelled barge Zwaluw sank while moored at a quay in Zeeburg, Netherlands.  No one was on board the vessel at the time and divers were requested to investigate.  The Zwaluw was loaded with 530 tons of gravel at the time of the incident.  Authorities placed oil booms around the sunken vessel to contain a small amount of pollution released when the vessel sank.  Reports state the vessel will be lifted and repaired.
