Collision in the Kiel Canal

The 783 gt icebreaker Stettin collided with the 89 meter long, 3850 dwt freighter Richelieu in the northern lock of the Kiel Canal at Brunsbuettel.   The Stettin was attempting to moor when it struck the stern of the Richelieu.  The icebreaker suffered little to no damage while the freighter’s stern was dented.   Both vessels were detained for a short period and allowed to continue their voyage.  The Stettin was on route from Hamburg bound for Rendsburg.  The Richelieu was bound for Kaliningrad from Hamburg.   No reports of injury or pollution being released.
