Zelada Desgagnes Collides with MSC Patricia

Damage to the Zelada Desgagnes

The 12744 dwt motor vessel Zelada Desgagnes collided with the 18150 dwt boxship MSC Patricia in the port of Antwerp, Belgium. The Zelada Desgagnes was heading out into the Western Scheldt Riverwhen it veered off to port and struck the MSC Patricia which was heading towards the Zandvliet Lock. The Zelada Desgagnes suffered significant damage with the hull holed above the waterline. The MSC Patricia suffered some damage, but was able to continue to the MSC terminal in Antwerp. Both vessels are berthed at the Antwerp Shiprepair yard for repairs. At the time of the accident (3 a.m.), there was a dense fog in the area.

An empty barge being pushed down the Ohio River allided the Sherman Minton Bridge which connects New Albany, Indiana with Louisville, Kentucky. The barge struck one of the bridge?s pillars, but the bridge did not show any visible damage. Officials are doing a check of the bridge?s structural integrity to make sure everything is ok. The cause of the allision was not reported, but the Coast Guard was conducting an investigation.
